How to Get Your Homework Under Control
Ever feel like there is too much to do and not enough time to do it.? Like you’re always rushing at the last minute? That you’re stressed out and maybe even a little freaked out about how you’re going to get all your stuff done before it’s due?
If any of this sounds familiar, you might know deep down that something needs to change, but maybe it’s not yet clear what needs to shift. Or maybe you’ve tried the latest time management fad or study hack only to go back to your old procrastinator ways.
The reality is that study hacks are great if you are looking for a quick fix, but they just don’t cut it if you’re looking to create a more long term healthy habit. If that’s the case, then you’re gonna need something with a little more staying power than fads and hacks.
Feeling overwhelmed by your workload isn’t about becoming faster at getting your homework done, it’s about making sure you budget the time you need to get your homework done well. The solution isn’t learning to study better (that’s what you do if you don’t understand the material). The solution is to become a better manager of your time.
In this episode, I walk you step-by-step through the very first thing you can do to get a better handle on your homework:
Gaining a clear understanding of exactly where your time is going.
Think of this the same way you would think about counting calories, monitoring your steps, or tracking your spending. Before you can change a habit, you’ve got to become aware of the habits that currently run your daily life. If habits that no longer serve you stay in place, no amount of tricks or hacks will improve your situation.
Tracking time for one week is the very first thing I ask my clients who feel overwhelmed to do this because time is your most precious resource. It’s the one resource you have that is not renewable, and it should be devoted to those things in your life that are highest priority, most precious, and sacred.
I’ll walk you step-by-step through:
Tools and technique for tracking your time.
How to make sense of your results
How to make changes and adjustments that align your use of time with your priorities
