One of the most common pieces of advice that folks share with college students is to visit professor’s office hours. Professors will even tell you to talk to them during office hours. But in my experience as a professor, students rarely take this advice. Instead, they prefer to chat with their professors before or after class or over email.
This is fine, but not talking to professors during office hours is a missed opportunity. Sure, email and class time are way more convenient, but convenience is not the reason most students avoid visiting office hours. It has more to do with feeling nervous about what to say. In this episode, Katy shares three solid topics of conversation that any student can strike up with their professors during office hours.
Now we want to hear from you! Do you visit your professors during office hours? Why or why not? What is your go-to topic for striking up a conversation with your professors?
